Body alignment is very important to have an erect posture. The spinal cord is the most important part of the human body. It supports the body and helps to maintain a straight posture and so does the lower back. It acts as the center of the body and helps you to stand and walk normally. High heels disrupt this normal posture making it a little curved. A high-heeled shoe puts your foot in a downward pointed position, putting more pressure on the forefoot. This forces you to adjust the rest of the body in order to maintain balance. This is not the normal posture of your body. Hammer Toe deformity, though not good to look at does not need immediate treatment. But when there is pain it is better to get it corrected. Also wear the correct shoes. Getting corrective surgery done may be an option. It is not recommended as the time to heel after surgery may be a little too long. It may take a month or two to heel completely. A rehabilitation plan is needed for the post surgery period. This is something I experienced as a sports injury in high school and it affects your big toe. It is an overuse injury that can cause pain and sometimes some bruising. Podiatry can also be called as branch of allied health which is devoted to diagnosis, the prevention and the medical treatment of every disorder of ankle, foot and lower region. These podiatrists are trained to identify these conditions along with treating its biomechanical issues which has led to the injury or have caused decrease in performance. They specialize in every kind of foot related problems which also includes injuries to muscles, joint, ligaments and tendon. They also look after the skin and nail issues like callus, blisters, fungal infections, ingrown toe nails and every systemic disease which manifest itself in the foot like the neurological and diabetes conditions. There are many reasons which causes hammertoe one being the tight shoes especially high heels. Wearing tight or high heel shoes causes muscles to contrast thus making it get out of balance. A tight shoe causes the fingers to bent, if they are bent for longer time it is possible in every way that you become the target of this deformity. The muscles get tighten and the tendons contracts. At times you must you have noticed than you find it difficult to straighten your toes after long hours of wearing tight shoes. Other than, this may also be caused due to hereditary. It may also occur from birth. By far the most common cause of muscle imbalance in toes is too much time in shoes and not enough bare foot time. The worst shoes are shoes with pointed toes, shoes that are too short, or high heels. These conditions will force your toe against the front of the shoe, pushing the toe back and bending the joints up. A common factor in development of hammertoe is wearing shoes that squeeze the toes or high heels that jam the toes into the front of the shoe. Most likely due to these factors, hammertoe occurs much more frequently in women than in men. Other causes or factors in the development of hammertoes can include an injury such as badly stubbing your toe, arthritis and nerve and muscle damage from diseases such as diabetes. And, hammertoes tend to run in families, although it is more likely the faulty foot mechanics that lead to hammertoes that are inherited, not the hammertoes themselves. I recommend wide extra-depth orthopedic shoes or even custom shoes for patients with bunions and hammer toes. Sometimes for older patients in nursing homes I will cut a hole in their shoe to make more room. Padding or taping sometimes helps mild to moderate deformities. Most drug stores have a foot care section with pads like tube foam or spacers available. Some patients find foot soaks in Epsom salt water solution helpful especially after a long day on your feet. 9.) Arthritis literally means 'joint inflammation'. Most diagnoses of this condition affect the foot. Orthotics can be used to help alleviate the symptoms of this common condition.
